About New in Europe

Independent first-month guides for people who have just moved to Poland, Germany or Czechia, in Ukrainian, English and Russian.

New in Europe is an independent guide for people in their first weeks in a new European country: people who came to work, people under temporary protection, families who moved together and people who arrived alone. We start with Poland, Germany and Czechia, three countries with large Ukrainian communities, and we plan to add more countries one at a time.

What you will find here

Every country has a hub with a first-month checklist and eight topics: documents and status, a bank account, sending money home, taxes, work, healthcare, housing, and phones. Each guide explains one procedure in plain language: what it is, who it applies to, where to go, what to prepare and what can go wrong. A guide is written for one country only. Rules in Poland are not the rules in Germany, so we never copy a text from one country to another.

Three languages, one set of facts

Each guide exists in Ukrainian, English and Russian. Within one country, the three versions contain the same facts: if you switch the language, you will not see different deadlines or different documents. Only the wording and the examples are adapted. A language that is not ready yet is shown in grey in the language menu instead of sending you to an empty page.

How we work

  • Facts come from official sources: government portals, migration offices, tax authorities and public health insurers. Each guide lists them at the end.
  • Each guide shows the date its facts were last checked. Rules change, especially for temporary protection, so we recheck and update the date.
  • We do not invent numbers. If an official source does not publish a fee or a processing time, we say so instead of guessing.
  • We do not give individual legal advice. For a decision about your own case, contact the authority named in the guide or a qualified adviser.

Money and independence

The site is free to read. Some guides link to services such as banks or money transfer providers through affiliate links, which are always marked. We may earn a commission when you sign up; it never changes what we write, and we never recommend payday loans or other short-term credit to newcomers. Detailed bank and transfer comparisons live on our sister site firstbankabroad.com, run by the same team. Read more in our affiliate disclosure and editorial policy.

Contact

Corrections, questions about a guide and privacy requests go to [email protected]. You can write in Ukrainian, English or Russian. If you send a correction, please include a link to the official page that shows the current rule; that lets us fix the guide quickly and update its check date.
