Privacy policy
What data newineurope.com processes, why, and your rights under the GDPR. No advertising trackers, analytics without cookies.
This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use newineurope.com and what rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We try to process as little as possible: we have no user accounts, no comment forms, no advertising trackers and no analytics cookies.
Who is responsible
The site is run by the New in Europe editorial team. For any question about your data, or to exercise your rights, write to [email protected].
What we process and why
- Server and security logs. When you open a page, our hosting and Cloudflare, the network that delivers and protects the site, process your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is needed to deliver the page and to protect the site against abuse (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are kept only as long as needed for security and fixing errors.
- Visit statistics without cookies. We count visits with Umami, an analytics tool that we host ourselves. It sets no cookies, does not build a profile of you and stores no full IP address. We see totals such as how many people opened a guide, not who they are (legitimate interest).
- Clicks on affiliate links. When you follow a link marked as affiliate, our server records that the link was used so that we can count clicks and receive commissions. The partner then processes your data under its own privacy policy.
- Email. If you write to us, we use your address and message only to answer you and keep the correspondence as long as needed for that.
Data that stays in your browser
The first-month checklist saves your ticks in your browser’s local storage, and closing the location hint saves a “closed” flag there too. This data never leaves your device and we cannot see it. You can delete it by clearing your browser’s site data.
The location hint
On some pages your browser asks Cloudflare which country your connection comes from, so that the site can suggest the guide for that country. The answer is used only in your browser to show the suggestion. We do not receive it, store it or use it to change the page. We never redirect you based on your location.
Recipients and transfers
Our service providers are Cloudflare (delivery and security) and Google Cloud (hosting). Some of their processing may take place outside the EU, including in the United States, under safeguards provided by the GDPR such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. We do not sell data and we do not share it for advertising.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the UODO in Poland, the authority of your federal state in Germany, or the ÚOOÚ in Czechia.
Changes
If we change how we process data, we will update this page and its date.
