Affiliate disclosure
How affiliate links work on newineurope.com, how they are marked, and what we never promote.
New in Europe is free to read. To pay for writing and checking guides, some pages contain affiliate links. This page explains what that means for you.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link leads to a service such as a bank, a money transfer provider, a mobile operator or a language course. If you sign up or buy something through it, the provider may pay us a commission. The price and conditions for you are the same as if you went to the provider directly.
How you can recognise them
- Affiliate links on this site go through an address on our own domain that starts with /go/ and are marked with the word “Affiliate” next to the link.
- Pages that contain affiliate links say so in the line at the bottom of the page and link here.
- Links to official sources, such as government portals, are never affiliate links.
What commissions do not change
Commissions do not decide what a guide says, which facts it includes or which problems it mentions. A guide describes the procedure first; a link to a provider appears only where it is a useful next step, and we name the limits and downsides we know of. We do not accept payment for positive mentions and we do not sell places in our guides.
What we never promote
We do not link to payday loans, short-term credit, credit cards for people without income, or any offer that targets people in a difficult situation with high costs. We only link to services that are relevant to the first months in a new country, such as accounts, transfers, phone plans, insurance and language courses.
How we choose services
Before a service appears in a guide, we check on its official website that it is available in the country the guide is about and that newcomers can use it with the documents the guide describes. We list the conditions we found and the date we checked them. If a service stops working for newcomers, changes its conditions in a way that harms readers, or ends the partnership, we remove or update the link. A service that pays us is never described as the only option when official or free alternatives exist. In the same way, we mention free public services even when nobody pays us for that.
Our sister site
Detailed comparisons of banks and money transfers live on firstbankabroad.com, which is run by the same team. Links from New in Europe to firstbankabroad.com are not affiliate links, but you should know that both sites belong to us. Firstbankabroad.com has its own affiliate disclosure.
